News Letter 014 Shortage of 20 ft container

There is a shortage of 20ft containers in Southeast Asian countries including Vietnam, so we would like to inform you below for your reference.

Incidents

Some shipping companies are limiting the bookings of 20ft containers for export to North America and Europe. Background

Background

In Southeast Asian countries such as Vietnam, the number of export containers exceeds the number of import containers,
and 20ft containers in particular are chronically in short supply.

In addition, changes to European routes (from avoiding the Suez Canal to the Cape of Good Hope due to the recent situation in the Red Sea)
have resulted in longer voyages and delays in the return of containers.

Shipping companies’ response

Shipping companies are sending containers back from ports where there is surplus capacity.

Current measures

We especially recommend booking 20ft as early as possible.

We encourage you to consider using multiple shipping companies in case you are unable to secure a booking.

Since forwarding containers generally increases costs, there are concerns about an increase in ocean freight charges.

The current container shortage is expected to be resolved by June, but we will continue to monitor the situation closely.

We are able to offer multiple shipping lines, so please do not hesitate to contact us if you are having trouble getting bookings.
