News Letter 031 【BASIC LOGISTICS IN VIETNAM⑨】Utilizing Bonded Warehouses for Non-Resident Inventory(Import)Consider storing your inventory in Vietnam
Dear valuable customer
Thank you very much for your continued support.
This is a newsletter from Dragon Logistics.
we would like to reintroduce one of the most common uses of bonded warehouses in Vietnam — non-resident inventory.
As the name suggests, non-resident inventory refers to a system that allows foreign companies (such as manufacturers’ headquarters, suppliers, or trading companies) without a local legal entity in Vietnam to hold inventory under their own name within the country.
If you are a company operating in Vietnam, you may be facing some of the following challenges:
You want to shorten lead times
You lack storage space at your factory and prefer to order in smaller lots
You want to reduce your inbound logistics costs
By having your suppliers utilize the non-resident inventory system, these issues can be effectively addressed.
1) Lead Time Optimization
Are your suppliers able to deliver consistently on time?
With direct international shipments, lead times are often unpredictable due to shipping delays, container shortages, or other disruptions. By keeping a safety stock within Vietnam, such risks can be reduced significantly — enabling more flexible responses to last-minute production changes.
2) Small-Lot Ordering
Do minimum order quantities often leave you struggling with limited factory storage space?
With stock pre-positioned at a bonded warehouse, you can request only what you need — for example, just 5 pallets — in small, production-aligned lots.
3) Logistics Cost Reduction
Are you importing small quantities from multiple suppliers via LCL shipments?
Switching to FCL (full-container load) shipping and storing the cargo in Vietnam may reduce your overall logistics cost, even when local warehousing fees are included.
Additionally, you may benefit from reduced administrative workload and a lower risk of cargo damage compared to LCL shipping.
How non-resident companies can sell using bonded warehouses
We currently operate our own bonded warehouses in both Northern Vietnam (Hanoi and Hung Yen Province) and Southern Vietnam (Dong Nai Province).
With nearly 30 years of experience, we have supported clients not only from Japan, but also from Korea, Singapore, Thailand, China, and other countries.
Holding inventory in Vietnam — even without a legal entity — can help suppliers expand their business opportunities and better serve local customers.
If any of the above issues sound familiar, we encourage you to reach out for a consultation.
In our next news, we plan to introduce examples of export-oriented bonded warehouse applications.
Stay tuned!
